Total Containers can handle all types of shipping container transport Melbourne wide. It’s always best to take consideration into how your container will be delivered. For residential we have found most homes on outer and regional suburbs will be generally ok however a lot of places particularly inner Melbourne and older suburbs where you will need to consider the following.
Are there ANY overhead power-lines, too many cars in the street, entry gate and also the distance between your property and the property opposite (major consideration if the truck needs to back into your property).
The other consideration is surface.
In the Western Suburbs and Western District, the basalt clay soil can be an issue for the trucks to get bogged when its too wet, particularly when a container needs to be delivered on a rural block with no crushed rock driveway access.
The sandy soil around the bay and coastal areas needs to be taken into consideration.
Preferably a flat surface with not too much slope, this makes delivery/collection easier and also helps to keep the container square so that the container doors are easier to open/close.
Side Loader
A Side Loader is essentially a truck fitted with a loading system operating to one side for handling containers. The Side Loader truck delivers the container by picking it up from the trucks chassis at each end of the container and lowering it onto the site directly next to the trucks’ chassis. It is important to consider which way the container should be loaded onto the truck as it can only be unloaded from the right hand (drivers’) side. Would the driver need to reverse in to the property or can he drive straight in?
12m Side Loader Clearance Requirements:
Height — 4.5m (15”)
Width — 6m (20”)
Length — 16m (53”)
Tilt Tray
A tilt tray is where the rear of the truck is capable of being tilted to ground level and the cargo is drawn on to the bed of the truck using a winch. The tilt tray truck is ideal for 6m (20ft) container delivery to many locations. The container is loaded on the truck, so that the container doors are in the correct position once delivered. The truck must reverse to the delivery point where the tray of the truck tilts to the ground & the container slides off the back.
Tilt trays have weight restrictions so are limited when moving full containers. We would require the weight of the container before booking in this transport option.
6m Tilt Tray Clearance Requirements:
Height — 4.8m (16”)
Width — 3m (10”)
Length — 12m (40”)
Hiab
A Hiab is a truck that has a crane attached to it. They are adaptable vehicles, capable of pin point accuracy to deliver your cargo in difficult access areas. This delivery method is used when neither a tilt tray or side loader truck can access the site. Hiab delivery allows for containers to be delivered over obstructions such as up to 3m high fences. This service can be very useful particularly for Melbourne and inner city suburbs where you must negotiate the tight laneways and streets.
A container can be dropped at a 90 degree angle to the truck.
Hiab’s have weight restrictions so are limited when moving full containers. We would require the weight of the container before booking in this transport option.
6m Hiab Clearance Requirements:
Height — 4.8m (16”)
Width — 3m (10”)
